Gutter Cleaning does Matter very much, how and when?

Posted by in Gutters | Comments

Regular cleaning and maintaining the gutters are taking care and protecting your pmeans you roperty. Gutters should be free from all blockages to function smoothly.

It should be well known to every homeowner that gutters should at least be cleaned twice a year. The cleaning should be in falls season and also before the spring starts. If properties are in a place where there are lot of trees or risks of storms there should be more frequent cleaning and maintenance.

Common organic debris that can build-up on gutters is a tar-like residue which can be very hard to scrape off when it’s left for a long period of time. Leaves, twigs, pine needles and organic matter are other particles which can settle on the gutter.

One of the most common tools that you’ll need when cleaning the gutter is the ladder. Make sure to choose a type of ladder that is stable and sturdy. Step-ladders are perfect for cleaning low roof properties. When using a stabilized extension ladder instead then make sure to place the top of the ladder against the roof then place the bottom on the ground away from the wall. It is advisable to have at least one quarter of the ladders length to be the distance from the wall.

To prevent the gutters from any damage by the extension ladders you should use a ladder stay, it is a metal triangle which can be attached to the ladder, that makes it convenient and safe to be placed against the wall. Gutters will be safe from being damaged.

Get a ladder that is long enough to reach areas and never stand on the top step of the ladder.

After you have placed the ladder with the wall the next thing you need is a plastic bucket to store and carry the debris. The bucket should be hung on a ladder step with a S-shaped hook, avoid hanging it on gutter to prevent the damage to gutter.

For scraping off debris, use trowel or garden spade and avoid using sharp tools that may damage the gutters. One may also opt for the gutter scooper which can be bought in some hardware stores. It has a long-bladed towel shape which is a perfect choice of tool since it is made solely for cleaning gutters.

When scooping out the debris, start by removing along the gutters and away from the downspout. After scooping off the debris, rinse it off with a garden hose. This is a good opportunity to inspect any leakages or clogs that may be present. By inserting the hose into the top part of the downspout check the flow of water if there is a minimum flow of water then it is likely that the drain is clogged.

Downspouts can be cleaned by either the water pressure mechanism by inserting the water hose into the downspout downward or either the downspout can be disassembled and cleaned, for this you have to take off the elbows and clean the obstructions or blockages there. This will need the proper tools to do so.
