Make Your Roof Tile Or Slate New In Three Steps

Posted by in Roofing | Comments

When was the last time you checked on your roof? Have you seen any minor cracks or changes on your roof’s surface? If so, what did you do to repair the damage? It is important to take note of the minor setbacks you see on your roof before it becomes a major problem for you and your family.

Slate and tile cracks are only some of the minor roofing problems most homes face. As much as this is inevitable, it is very much curable. What you need to do to with that crack is to seal it and if possible, seal it for good. Here are the guidelines into patching up the broken slate or tile on your roof. But first, grab the necessary tools before you get started. You will need a wire brush, flashing tape, trimming knife, and flashing primer. You will also possibly need floor or tile paint or an old wallpaper roller. Do not forget your safety tools as well. Safety spectacles are also important for eye protection to avoid any debris and elements from getting into your eyes.

1. Clean the area

In any method, you start by preparing the area first. Keep the surrounding area around the crack clean with the use of a wire brush. You may also want to wear your safety goggles to prevent any debris from entering your eyes.

4. Obscure the cracked area

Cover the area by cutting a strip of flashing tape. Make sure that it is big enough to cover the crack. Then lay it down to cover at least 1 in of the slate on either side.

3. Final touches

The last step is to brush the slate or tile with flashing primer. Be sure to coat the area that is equal to that of the tape. After which, apply the tape on the same area and push it down tightly. You can use an old wallpaper roller to have a smoother and even surface.

Optional: If you have a colored tile, you can paint the surface with tile or slate paint to get a more natural look. This can also conceal the restored area and match it with its neighboring slate or tiles.

Sealing the crack on your slate or tile on your own, may take 1 hour or less. But you can call Katy Roofer to have it done immediately and worry free.
