Parts Used in Gutter Installation

Posted by in Gutters | Comments

The faade of the home should be clean, there should not be any peeled off paint before you start installing the gutters.

There is a variety of gutters available in the market. You can choose gutters with or without seams. For gutter with joints they come in white and aluminum colors. Seamless gutters come in different colors matching with the color of the property and you can choose accordingly. These can be installed by you or by an expert.

Installation of gutters by you obviously saves you the money which you pay to the professional gutter installers otherwise. Once you decide to install it by yourself, you should first fix a nail into the front of wall at one end of the wall almost half inch below the top. Then you can draw a straight line to show the front of the gutters with a mascon’s line by driving nails on distances of inch for every 25 feet of the front wall.

Adjust gutter brackets and their fittings to front wall using wood screws. The top of every bracket should be following the chalk line. Brackets should be fixed at 2 feet interval then each gutter section into its place. This will fit it to the brackets and fittings. Place every succeeding section into the end of the previous one , this will be joined with it by the connectors. Now you cap the end of the gutter, the water now flows to the downspout. There should be a drop outlet to the bottom of each gutter for every downspout. Fasten an elbow and a smaller length of downspout to have it run the wall and then add an elbow and longer sections for extending the run direct to the ground.

Two brackets should be screwed on the wall, and then anchor the downspout to the wall, one bracket is at the top of downspout and the other above the foundation. An elbow to be placed at the bottom of downspout and splash block is to be placed under it to prevent the soil from being eroded.

The properties where the end of roof beams are exposed; the gutters can be nailed to the rafter. Place a chalk line on the end of the rafter and place the gutter brackets, these should make a straight line from the top to down.

There are metal gutters that use spikes and ferrules instead of brackets. These can be laid by at the sloping chalk line. Fit the ferrules inside and across the gutter by attaching them then drill in the spikes in to the fascia. Retouch any removed paint with rustoleum paint such as Red Devil. A gutter cover can also be added on the gutter system.
