Our hearts go out to the residents of Springfield, MA and the surrounding area affected by the tornados that ravaged many on June 1st of this year. The damage caused by the powerful storms left tress uprooted, homes in structural disarray, and disrupted the lives of many citizens in the western part of the state.

A video clip was captured this afternoon of the tornado as it moved through downtown Springfield.

At 7pm the tornado warning remained in effect for the Worcester and Hampden counties. The National Weather Service said, “its Doppler radar indicated a tornado was moving near Brimfield, 16 miles east of Springfield. Forecasters warned people to shelter and cautioned that tornadoes are difficult to see at night.”

Among the wreckage were hundreds of homes, buildings, retail stores, public facilities, as well as the city’s courthouse. Once the tornado left the town search and rescue teams, including K-9 units were dispatched to the affected areas to search for injured and stuck people.

Power was out for most of the effected area including Springfield, East Brookfield, and Rochdale as power lines were seriously damaged.

A reporter on AM 1030 stated that cars had been overturned, broken glass had been strewn across the street, and roof ventilation was scattered everywhere. As of 8:30pm, a reported 8 tornadoes had been sighted across New England.
